Samurai Novelist

Samurai Novels Blog of author Akira Fuyuno.

Author: samurainovelist

Japanese writer struggling to write a novel in English. My first published story was the flash fiction "Chocolate Soup" in the anthology "Opus 22" by Melius Scripto Press published in 2017. (The ivory dragon on my avatar is a netsuke by the carver Rakuchu. I also carve netsuke as a hobby.)

Gobbledegook

A jumble of nonsense words can be cool. But it would be hell to edit.

Write Your Own Story

The Hook, Line, and Sinker

The opening of a book is the hook, the line, and the sinker. "The hook" provides the catch, "the line" provides the tension, and "the sinker" provides the direction.

How to be a Teenage Author

Analyzing the Opening Line

If there is one part of the novel that is open to analytical dissection, it is the first few sentences.

Write What You Know

You should write what you know, but you are not writing your autobiography. You need to be flexible enough to introduce foreign elements and to tailor the story arc to fit the format of a novel.

The Blind Swordsman

Sometimes you just have to kill your darlings, even if he was initially meant to be your central character

Lit Lite

Multi-culturalism is not about bemoaning Eurocentric culture while you wait for foreign perspectives to be delivered to you in English.

A Solution for Female Writers

If the situation for female writers in America is so dire, why not come across the pond?
