- Do not try to write “that bestseller novel”. Write a good 10 thousand volume seller.
- Your characters are not your alter ego. They do not have to look cool for you.
- You’ve been stuck before. You will be stuck again. It is not the end of the world and it is not a reason to discard your novel.
- It is the same 30,000 word wall as the last time.
- Don’t polish. Just write.
- Leave that plot bunny alone.
- No, you will not find inspiration on the internet.
- You have already read that how-to-write book.
- If you cannot write two thousand words today, write two hundred words. It will pile up.
- You are not too busy. You are not too tired. You are just too distracted.
Good advice 🙂

Thanks. I should listen to myself more.

I have to tell myself not to polish all the time. It’s like banging my head against a wall at this point, but on the good days I get the message and it makes all the difference.

I keep telling myself that there is no sense in polishing the lumber before it goes through the band saw; polish it after it is made into a chair.

I openly admit to being reminders # 5,7, and 8, I reluctantly admit to needing reminders # 3,4,6, and 9. I venomously deny needing reminders 1,2, and 10 (despite beefing them badly). Good article!
